The North Monterey County Unified School District Board’s regular meeting on October 22, 2026, included presentations on middle-school progress, college and career readiness, and statewide assessment results. District staff reported improved academic indicators, attendance, and college/career readiness, and outlined implementation of CaliforniaColleges.edu and ongoing curriculum and intervention work. The board adopted the agenda and consent agenda; no procurement award or purchasing vote was identified. Staff reported applying through Mission Trails ROP for work-based learning and pre-apprenticeship grants, as well as a CTE incentive grant and a civic engagement/service-learning grant. Any awards and resulting spending remain pending; staff said grant funds would generally become available in July, with one grant potentially allowing expenditures beginning in January.

Public comment raised concerns about classified employees’ dental and vision contributions under the employee-only Bronze insurance plan. A CSEA representative cited an estimated 101 affected employees and approximately $66,000 in annual district savings, and asked the board to suspend charges and make affected employees whole. The superintendent said the negotiated agreement covers the medical Bronze plan, stated that dental and vision are negotiable, and confirmed the matter is currently in negotiations. A separate public comment urged support for Measure L, but the meeting did not include a board vote or procurement action related to it.
