The SCCS Board of Education Academic Achievement & Policy Committee of the Whole met on October 15, 2026. The committee discussed a potential purchase of TCI middle-school social studies materials for grades 6–8, including textbooks, workbooks, classroom resources and student digital licenses. Current student materials include an out-of-print workbook, and the district does not have student online licenses. The presenter shared one-, three- and six-year quote options; the discussion cited approximately $18,000 for the one-year option and $6,967 per year for the six-year option. Members weighed the longer-term savings against the risk of committing to an edition that may be superseded, as a fourth edition is in development. No purchase was approved. Staff will consult the social studies department, verify quote details and return with a recommendation at the next meeting; members discussed a possible order in November for use in the second half of the school year.
The committee also received updates on professional learning communities, student-data reviews, staff training and a competitive 35N grant now in its second year, supporting small-group instruction at the middle-school level. Members reviewed proposed revisions to board policies, including Title IX-related procedures, and planned to have counsel review the proposed changes. No other procurement approvals, spending motions or votes were identified.
