The City of Suffolk Wetlands Board met on October 15, 2026. No procurement activity, contract awards, vendor selections, or spending approvals were identified. The Board approved the minutes and, by a 4–0 vote, approved permit SWB 2026-00017 for Benjamin Johnson’s proposed 520-linear-foot living shoreline at 1504 White Dogwood Trail. The project includes oyster-catcher sills and pillows over 4,680 square feet of non-vegetated tidal wetlands and 2,000 Spartina alterniflora plantings; approval was subject to the permit’s listed conditions, with an expiration date of October 15, 2027. A James River Association representative said the project is part of a homeowner cost-share program, but no funding amount was stated.

Staff reported completion of a separate 350-foot bulkhead replacement at Volvo Penta Marina. The Board also discussed Suffolk’s updated Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act regulations, adopted by City Council in September, including required coastal resiliency assessments for development plans in the RPA and an exemption for qualifying living shoreline projects. Board members raised concerns about a pending wetlands violation and requested further review of the application, mitigation requirements, and historical site conditions; no final action on that matter was taken.
