The City of Lake Worth Beach City Commission’s October 16, 2026 pre-agenda workshop focused primarily on resident concerns about vegetation and bulk-waste pickup fees and fines. Commissioners supported pursuing refunds or account credits for affected residents, with a formal motion proposed for the October 20 meeting; staff said it could notify residents that utility service would not be shut off over the disputed refuse charges and would provide further details after Tuesday’s discussion. Staff estimated postcard production and mailing would take about six days plus two weeks, with expedited-mailing costs to be provided. Commissioners also asked staff to analyze the cost and feasibility of weekly bulk pickup and incorporate service information into a broader clean-and-green program. A third-party operational and cost-of-service study, funded in the current budget, is expected to begin data collection in January, with results anticipated in early 2027. A project manager position approved in the budget is expected to be posted shortly.
The commission raised concerns about the process and terms of proposed employment contracts, including vacation, administrative leave, and severance provisions for the internal auditor and city manager. Members sought additional answers and complete agenda backup; one commissioner urged that the city manager contract be considered only when materials meet the commission’s posting rules. No formal votes were taken at the workshop. Commissioners also requested updates on publicly funded development projects, including Vanilla Ice, Gulfstream, and Bluefront, and raised policy questions about food trucks and short-term rentals. No procurement award, solicitation, or vendor selection was identified.
