The City of El Paso Veterans Advisory Committee met on October 15, 2026. The committee received updates on VA claims clinics, neighborhood outreach, veteran events, and the Veterans Advisory Board’s priorities: legislative engagement, the Veterans Capital of the USA initiative, and outreach. A county representative reported purchasing about 200 green light bulbs for free distribution through Operation Greenlight. The Texas Veterans Commission’s grant application window is open, with grants moving to a two-year cycle; the committee had also recommended that the City apply for eligible grants. No contract awards, bids, or other formal procurement actions were identified.

Members discussed a proposed property-tax reimbursement initiative under Local Government Code 140.011 and noted that a separate veterans’ sales-tax exemption proposal remains dormant. Other updates included a planned Texas Veterans Commission veterans business center, possible Tech for Troops activity in El Paso, veteran business events, and claims assistance involving the county and veterans’ service organizations. The committee approved motions to excuse absences and adjourned; no procurement-related spending vote was recorded.
