The Beaufort County Green Space Advisory Committee met on October 16, 2026, to review land-conservation applications and the status and funding of active acquisitions. The committee approved moving the roughly four-acre RLC Properties corridor application to due diligence; the property was reported listed for $1.65 million. Members emphasized that this approval authorizes further investigation, not a purchase. Staff will begin with an appraisal based on current zoning and return with information for the county to determine whether acquisition is a priority. An appraisal/due-diligence cost of about $15,000 was discussed. The committee also received updates on other acquisitions, including projects under contract or nearing closing, and continued due diligence on the Granger’s Retreat track; it took no action on the Pine Grove Plantation track in executive session.

The funding update cited more than $35 million in closed projects approved by resolution, nearly $22 million in estimated due-diligence projects, and about $16.441 million currently available before an anticipated reimbursement of at least $20 million. Members also reviewed expected year-end closings and requested confirmation of the closing timeline for the Ladies Island school-district property. No conventional contract award or vendor selection was made. The committee planned a special meeting for November 13, subject to room availability, in addition to its regular December meeting.
