The City of Ventura Parks & Recreation Commission met on October 15, 2026. Staff updated commissioners on the proposed Tree Protection Ordinance, including changes to exemptions and civil penalties and a plan to set permit fees based on actual city costs; fee amounts were still being developed. The Commission also received a presentation on e-bike safety, enforcement, and education, including school and community outreach. No city e-bike procurement or contract award was reported.
The Commission selected Commissioner Tobar for the Community Wellness grant review panel. Staff reported $130,000 available in that category, with awards ranging from $5,000 to $20,000 per recipient; applications were open, with panels scheduled for December. Capital-project updates included completed service work at Canon Back Linear Park, ordered replacement parts for Sierra Park, and ongoing tennis-court design expected to continue into spring before a construction RFP and bidding. Golf-course pro shop and restroom work, along with replacement trailers, remained targeted for spring 2027. A separate permanent-structure project was at the 30% conceptual-design stage and was described as unplanned and unfunded; a design firm was selected, though its name is unclear in the transcript.
