The City of Iowa City Airport Commission met on September 10, 2026. Members approved two resolutions setting public hearings for October 8 on proposed hangar leases: one with Jet Air for Hangar N and one with Terry Edmunds for Hangar 80. Lease comments received so far were described as not substantially changing the documents; the commission did not approve the leases themselves. No contract award or vendor selection was made. The commission also discussed adding three flagpoles at the F-86 display, with the VFW potentially responsible for raising and lowering the flags. Staff said funds may be available, but the proposal and cost were not finalized, and maintenance responsibilities remain a consideration.
Airport capital work and funding were also reviewed. Reels for the 12/30 project were installed, though a pavement patch was being replaced and would require testing before the runway reopened; installation of reels on Runway 7 was expected to require three daytime closures during the week of September 21. State Department of Transportation grants for the T. Hager building project had not yet been issued, and staff described coordinating multiple FAA and state grant programs. The commission discussed upcoming budget and capital improvement planning, including possible earmarks. Staff also reported receiving a quote from another firm for a door repair, in line with prior quotes, but had not secured a schedule. A wildlife mitigation study report was expected in October or November and may support future grant-funded work.
