Ann Arbor Building Board of Appeals 10/15/2026

The Ann Arbor Building Board of Appeals meeting was held October 15, 2026. The board elected Kevin Cox as chair, approved the agenda, and approved the prior meeting minutes with a requested record update. The main item was appeal BBA 26-00004 concerning proposed basement work at 1122 Mixwood. Staff said the plans did not meet the 2015 Michigan Residential Code’s minimum ceiling-height requirements and recommended denial. Joe Daly of Four Wall Construction described the proposed laundry and bathroom renovations and discussed possible plan changes, including defining part of the basement as non-habitable.

After discussing the code requirements and possible redesigns, the board denied the appeal and affirmed the building official’s decision. Staff noted that revised plans meeting code could be resubmitted for plan review. No procurement, contract, or spending decisions were identified. The board also acknowledged Paul Darling’s nearly 30 years of service, then adjourned.
