The City of Stevens Point Transportation Commission met on October 13, 2026. It approved the August and September financial reports; discussion noted the department was about three-quarters through its budget, was awaiting federal funding, and had routine vehicle expenses, including forklift batteries and bus-rim replacements. The commission reviewed a proposed Saturday bus route serving UWSP and shopping destinations including Crossroads Commons. UWSP would need to agree to pay 45% of the estimated operating cost, with state and federal funds covering 55%; the proposal remains subject to UWSP approval, public notice and a hearing, and approval by the commission and City Council. No final route approval was recorded.

The commission also discussed applying for a WISDOT Section 5304 grant to develop a five-year transit development plan, with a proposed $100,000 budget funded 80% federally and 20% locally; the local share was requested in the city’s capital budget. A motion and second were made, but the transcript does not capture a final vote. Staff reported that a driver had been hired and was completing onboarding, and that they were comparing live-bus-tracking platforms and gathering quotes, with no vendor selected. A consultant presentation on a conceptual downtown transfer center was planned for the next meeting.
