At the October 19, 2026, Winston-Salem City Council regular meeting, council approved a change order of $129,880 to DCH Enterprises, Inc. for painting City Hall’s common areas and council chamber ahead of the building’s centennial. The work follows an initial $50,000 purchase order and will be funded through the property and facilities operating budget and a City Hall renewal account. The change order was approved unanimously. Council also approved several zoning petitions, the Northeast Suburban Area Plan, and a UDO text amendment removing certain perimeter buffer-yard requirements for planned residential developments while retaining thoroughfare open-space requirements. A street-closing petition was denied after concerns were raised about added neighborhood traffic. During public comment, a resident suggested reconsidering the city’s hybrid-vehicle purchasing policy and planning for electric-vehicle charging infrastructure; no related purchasing action was taken.
