At the October 15, 2026 Rutherford County Schools Board of Education meeting, the board approved 10 additional special education assistant positions for one-to-one student support. The estimated cost, including benefits, will not exceed $500,000; officials said the positions were already budgeted using funds from current vacancies. The board also approved a purchase request for an agricultural-program shed at Stewart’s Creek High School, with costs covered by an Innovative Schools Model grant and the CTE program, and approved installation of two HVAC units at Siegel Middle School for $16,500, funded by a donor at no cost to the board. Easement requests involving Middle Tennessee Electric at Siegel High School and Central Magnet were also approved; the utility will provide signage for the Siegel project, and the Central Magnet work is intended to reduce power outages.
The board approved a resolution asking the state legislature to provide direct funding for arts education through the TISA formula. The director also reported requesting a higher TISA increase and revised funding weights, and raised concerns about growing costs associated with serving students placed in Rutherford County through the foster-care system; no related spending motion was taken. The board approved the annual TISA accountability report and a new job description for the Army JROTC director of instruction. A public speaker submitted educator petition signatures seeking collaborative conferencing on matters including salary, insurance, and working conditions; the next statutory steps include appointing a committee and conducting an employee poll.
