The October 13, 2026 Park and Recreation Commission meeting of Arlington, Massachusetts, focused on parks and recreation capital projects and planning. A consultant presented the town field master study: use data showed substantial overuse of fields, and seven sites were shortlisted for closer review, with conceptual designs and cost estimates to be developed for five. The commission did not select the five sites; members raised the need for better information about high school field use. The Crosby Courts project was reported as more than 90% complete and on schedule and budget, with a soft opening anticipated in early November. The commission deferred decisions on longer-term court rules, reservations, and signage until winter, targeting March 1 for that work. For the Poets Corner project, staff plans to submit a preliminary Community Preservation Act application; a newly received proposal estimated about $95,000 for schematic design and additional future design/construction-document work at roughly $100,000–$200,000. No application amount or procurement award was approved at this meeting.

The commission also heard of ongoing problems with the Menotomy Rocks Park project contractor, including five pieces of equipment slated for replacement, a $7,500 amendment for additional consultant services, and more than $92,000 in reported project change orders to date; staff said the project remains unfinished and may require a further contract extension. A separate feasibility study has a $10,000 FY2027 allocation, with a report expected by December. The Ed Burns Arena/bikeway entrance design is advancing toward 100% design, while construction tied to the MWRA work is expected in winter 2029. No procurement-related motions or contract awards were voted on; the only recorded vote was approval of the September 8 meeting minutes.
