The City of Saginaw Community Garden Board met on October 15, 2026, to review draft bylaws and policies and discuss garden operations. The board workshopped a possible mission focused on community, education, empowerment, and sustainability, and discussed plot assignments, membership rules and fees, maintenance expectations, and permitted pesticides. No bylaws or membership fees were adopted; the proposed $50 fee was an example from another garden, and any city fee would require City Council approval through the master fee schedule. The board also discussed junior members and selected Kendall as vice chair. Motions passed to approve the July 9 minutes, appoint the vice chair, and adjourn.
No contract awards, purchases, or spending approvals were identified. Staff said the garden has no allocated funding, and the board discussed possible future grants, business sponsorships, donations, and a potential budget request. Two planters had been donated, and members planned to research planter dimensions and materials; irrigation planning depends on finalizing the planters. A major road construction project, already underway and estimated to take about two years, could affect the garden’s location, but the plans are not finalized. Members agreed to continue the bylaws and equipment discussions at a future meeting.
