Planning Commission Hearing - 10/14/2026
Body
County of San Mateo
Date
October 13, 2026
Jurisdiction
State & Local
The San Mateo County Planning Commission hearing on October 14, 2026, considered amendments to the Local Coastal Program and the County’s Protected Tree Ordinance following the California Coastal Commission’s conditional certification on August 12, 2026. The amendments update references and incorporate the Coastal Commission’s requested modifications. The Commission unanimously recommended that the Board of Supervisors adopt the amendments; this was the first reading, with Board consideration tentatively scheduled for November 17. Staff said it would verify and correct an ordinance cross-reference before the Board hearing. No contracts, purchasing decisions, or budget allocations were discussed.
In the director’s report, staff noted other county policy and land-use actions: an extended temporary moratorium on new or expanded detention and correctional facilities; an ordinance requiring registration, permits, and fees for commercial use of mobile autonomous robots; changes to inclusionary housing requirements; and a proposal for the Board to direct preparation of zoning amendments that could include a countywide ban on new data centers in unincorporated areas. These matters may affect future permitting and development, but no procurement activity was identified.
