At a special Wallingford Board of Education meeting on October 15, 2026, the board and community discussed draft educational specifications for the district’s ASTE agricultural science program and a potential new school facility. Staff said the specifications were developed with SLAM consultants and program teachers to identify space and operational needs, not to establish a final design. The Google Form for feedback remained open through the following day; two responses had been received at the time of the meeting. No contract award, purchase, budget allocation, or project approval was considered. A motion to take a brief recess passed; no other substantive vote was reported.

Community members recommended revisions for the draft, including consistent use of the official “companion animal science” course title; adequate grooming, animal-care, preparation, and storage spaces; large dog-grooming tubs and a shower rather than standard sinks; secure after-hours access for student animal care; and space for FFA instruction, chapter meetings, alumni support, and the vegetable garden. Participants also emphasized accessibility and the separate barn. Staff said feedback would be shared with SLAM and incorporated into a revised draft. The board will later consider formal approval of the Ed Specs, which would be required with other specifications for a possible grant application; no grant award or funding amount was discussed.
