The Lyon County Board of Commissioners meeting on October 15, 2026 included updates on energy exploration, groundwater, and transportation, along with several procurement and funding decisions. Ormat Technologies presented on its proposed Mason geothermal exploration project, which remains in permitting and exploration; no county action was taken. The board authorized Addison Law Group to pursue legal action against Dow and Far West Engineering concerning the Aspen Creek Rapid Infiltration Basin, and approved a $780,000 grant subaward to Central Lyon County Fire Protection District for an ambulance and EMT-paramedic positions. It also approved a $37,152 ADA bathroom remodel at the Yerington library, funded by a $20,000 grant and $17,152 from general-fund contingency; accepted donated scoreboards valued at $18,807; accepted a $30,061 off-highway vehicle safety grant with a $9,760 county match; and approved a contract with Hey Frank LLC, not to exceed $97,599, for a mental-health awareness campaign.

Other actions included approving use of an estimated $35,545.21 in county building permit fees as match for a Boys & Girls Club of Mason Valley project supported by the Pennington Foundation, and approving a letter of support for Great Basin Transmission Company’s 2028 expansion project. The board also approved three commissioners and the county manager to attend the 2027 NACO legislative conference at an estimated $3,500 per person; the motion passed 3–2. A commissioner reported that the Dayton Valley Conservation District had awarded a woody-debris removal contract, and county staff said they would return with a recommendation after reviewing three insurance-broker options. Ormat’s presentation described potential future county revenue and road-use arrangements, but the project has not yet received the federal approvals needed for drilling.
