At the ABSS Board of Education work session on October 13, 2026, the board reviewed the proposed disposition of the historic Sellers-Gun Educational Center. Because the district no longer needs the property for educational use, it must first offer it to Alamance County commissioners at fair market value; if the county declines, the board may consider other disposition options, including transfer to a nonprofit for preservation and community use. Board members discussed the property’s condition and historical significance, possible community partners, and concerns about future use. No disposition decision was made at the work session; the matter was to return at the evening meeting. The board also received notice that 11 aging mobile classrooms would be declared surplus, while two units would be retained at Western Alamance Middle School.

Procurement and financial items included a proposed annual districtwide chiller preventive-maintenance contract with Systems Contractors valued at $104,485.80, expected to go to the consent agenda; no award vote was taken in this session. The CFO presented a budget resolution totaling approximately $320.67 million, including capital funding and $786,000 in capital-outlay carryover for unfinished projects; board members noted that planned capital-improvement funds were already assigned to projects. The district’s audit was reported as clean, with no findings or control weaknesses. The board also heard about $23,600 in grants for FFA travel and beginning-teacher initiatives, and speech-language services that include contracted virtual providers while the district works to fill vacancies.
