The City of Sammamish City Council work session, titled October 20, 2026 (meeting metadata lists October 21), included updates on police services, youth support, and traffic safety. On police costs, staff said they plan to hold two vacancies to provide a margin for overtime and unanticipated expenses. A K9 deputy will transfer to unincorporated King County, reducing Sammamish’s contracted staffing count from 34 to 33 and lowering the 2027 cost model; staff said K9 resources would remain available and response times were not expected to be affected. Fleet and vehicle replacement are included in the monthly police-service cost, and staff did not anticipate unusual capital costs. Traffic staff also described using Street Vision, a tool available through a state grant, to inform enforcement and roadway-safety work. No procurement award, bid approval, or spending motion was identified.

The council also received an informational review of development docket items. Staff said the transfer-of-development-rights program’s main implementation barrier is its King County interlocal agreement, and cited budget constraints and competing policy goals in recommending against changes to make the program more usable; a public hearing is scheduled for November 17. For the Building 120 future land-use map amendment, the Planning Commission had unanimously recommended approval, with a City Council hearing also scheduled for November 17. Council members discussed traffic-safety engineering, including roundabouts, but no related project or purchase was approved.
