The City of Ridgecrest’s 2026 City Council candidate forum was held October 14, 2026. Candidates discussed Measure P, which funds the Penny Pool and various city services and expires in 2032, with several urging early public planning for future funding. They also addressed prospective capital needs, including the wastewater treatment facility, parks and ball fields, a courthouse, and possible water-supply options. Ron Strand said wastewater-facility construction would require financing and political support; candidates differed on the proposed water pipeline and the city’s role in groundwater planning. These were campaign proposals and views, not council actions or approved spending.
Candidates also debated the city’s Flock Safety contract and privacy safeguards: some supported continuing the system with stronger protections, while others favored cancellation or opposed its use. The forum included no motions, votes, contract awards, or procurement approvals. Although existing contract changes and prospective projects were discussed, no specific purchasing action or budget allocation was taken.
