The United Independent School District Board of Trustees held a regular meeting on July 22, 2026. The board approved monthly disbursements after discussing several expenses, including $66,000 for arena rental, $27,845 for other event rentals, $1,750 for enrollment billboards, and $4,000 for employee meals during graduation. Staff said $33,000 in Chromebook parts would support refurbishing devices for incoming first graders and could save the district an estimated $1.5–$2 million compared with purchasing new devices. The board also approved $14,275 in donations to district schools and programs.
The main procurement item was RSP 2026001 for administration services and stop-loss coverage for the district’s self-insured health plan. Staff recommended rescinding the prior award to the Monty Group after its final offer added exclusions and high individual “lasers,” and considering the next-ranked Ladel Group, underwritten by Blue Cross Blue Shield, at a reported cost of about $3.2 million. Staff described a potential $1.4 million health-fund deficit and proposed using realized electricity-contract savings to offset the cost and increasing the district contribution from $575 to $600 per member per month. The board voted to table the item until a July 29 special meeting; no new award was made at this meeting. Trustees also discussed the district’s broader deficit and spending controls.
