SHAC Meeting 09.15.2026 (AUDIO)

Tyler ISD School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) meeting, September 16, 2026. Members heard a presentation on ATV safety, emphasizing youth injuries and fatalities in East Texas, Texas operating rules, protective equipment, and community education. The presenters said staff planned to attend ATV-safety instructor training and discussed using school and community channels to share safety information. Other health topics included student sleep, nutrition, diabetes education, e-bike and scooter safety, and rising concerns about student self-harm and behavioral health; participants discussed possible outreach and volunteer support. Food Service reported implementing a new point-of-sale system, including new computers and registers and staff training; no vendor, contract amount, or approval vote was identified. The director also discussed federal school-meal reimbursements, changing eligibility that could affect participation in the Community Eligibility Provision, and upcoming sodium-level requirements that will complicate menu planning.
