At its August 11, 2026 meeting, the Pearland ISD Board of Trustees held a public hearing and adopted the 2026 tax rate of $1.135 per $100 of taxable value—78.69¢ for maintenance and operations and 34.81¢ for interest and sinking—unchanged from the prior year and below the no-new-revenue rate; the resolution passed 7–0. The board also approved the first FY 2026–27 budget amendment 7–0, including a $100,000 increase for expected water-rate costs and a $388,000 transfer of contingency funds to safety and security for SRO costs. It approved the district’s internet-service consortium dues despite a reported 37.5% increase, citing the value and cost of the shared fiber service (7–0), and approved emergency remediation of moisture-affected computers for $8,999.96 before sales tax (6–0, with one abstention). The board ratified a tuition-based Communities in Schools after-school partnership and a five-year New Hope Church reunification-site agreement; the district reported no direct cost for the latter.
The board reviewed bond spending and interest earnings, discussed using those earnings for technology cost overruns and contingency, and requested clearer reporting of the funding sources for future bond purchases. A districtwide exterior LED-lighting project, including parking-lot, wall-pack, and canopy lighting, is being prepared for bid; staff estimated about six months for completion after work begins. The board also approved amendments to its District of Innovation plan and annual operating procedures, and received a safety-audit update reporting no major findings and ongoing corrective work. A public comment raised concerns about extensive student laptop use; the board requested supporting research, with no action taken on the comment.
