The Socorro ISD Board of Trustees held a board briefing on October 13, 2026, to review items for a forthcoming regular meeting; no votes or approvals were taken during the briefing. Trustees discussed an administrative services agreement with Highland covering fleet management, charging-infrastructure support, training, maintenance, software, and operational services for 25 additional electric school buses. The proposed arrangement would also extend services to the district’s existing 25 electric buses at no fee, with a Tanton Road site license and energy services offsetting the maintenance and charger-operation costs.

Under financial services, trustees reviewed a proposed partnership with El Paso Children’s Hospital providing $280,000 to help fund athletic trainer salaries and benefits, along with training opportunities at no additional cost; the district would also allocate $1,000 per trainer for campus equipment. Trustees discussed health-plan funding scenarios for 2027, including a potential $5 million contribution tied to the VADER election, and requested an additional scenario showing no increase in employee contributions. A special board meeting and benefits enrollment were anticipated for November. Human Resources also explained that the campus excellence stipend would be removed because it had been misunderstood as applying to A-rated principals. These matters were discussed for possible future action; no spending or procurement decision was finalized at the briefing.
