The Unified Government of Wyandotte County & KCK Board of Zoning Appeals and City Planning Commission met on October 12, 2026. No procurement, contract awards, or purchasing activity was identified. The Board of Zoning Appeals voted 5–3 to deny Chima Food and Petroleum’s request for a liquor store at 4732 State Avenue, citing staff’s recommendation and opposition from the active Grace Temple Baptist Church and community members. The Planning Commission approved its consent agenda 10–0. It also approved, subject to staff conditions, a change from CP1 to CP2 zoning for a hotel expansion at 3405 Rainbow Boulevard, adding 32 rooms after demolition of the adjacent Applebee’s; the associated plan review was approved 10–0. A microbrewery special-use permit for The Woodyard LLC was approved 10–0.

The commission approved several short-term-rental permits, generally for one year for non-owner-occupied properties and two years for an owner-occupied home. It denied, 8–1, the permit for 4343 Lloyd Street after neighbors described parking, trash, noise, and other disturbances; staff also recommended denial and proposed additional conditions if the request were approved. The commission voted 10–0 to hold over an ordinance expanding the use of temporary structures for outdoor retail for 60 days, while a three-member task force reviews it and develops recommendations. The hotel zoning change and special-use-permit recommendations are to go before the Board of Commissioners; final plats do not proceed to that board.
