The Peabody Institute Library of Danvers Board of Trustees met on October 14, 2026. The board approved a memorandum of understanding with the Town of Danvers by majority vote, with one member opposed. The town manager said it codifies existing laws and practices concerning responsibilities for library employees and the director; discussion covered the town manager’s authority over employment actions, HR investigations, and the board’s evaluation role. The director reported that Sunday library hours will be suspended this year because of staffing shortages and the town’s uncertain future budget outlook. The town manager said vacancies are being reviewed individually and that a fiscal outlook meeting with town and school officials is planned for November 7; no layoffs or hiring freeze were confirmed.

Cornerstone Financial Partners presented an update on the library trust, reporting a current value of about $733,000 and recommending a 4% annual withdrawal rate while retaining the existing conservative investment strategy. The board plans to review and update its investment policy statement. Trustees also discussed a proposed archival donation, including the need for a deed of gift and Select Board approval, and possible use of the Digital Commonwealth for digitization; no related purchase or contract was approved. The treasurer’s report was approved after a question about an unexplained $5,000 July withdrawal, which staff agreed to investigate. No procurement activity, contract award, or vendor selection was identified.
