The Citrus County Planning and Development Commission held a public hearing on October 15, 2026. It approved variance application V2026-00012, allowing the West Citrus Elks Lodge to serve alcohol at a proposed location within 500 feet of a charitable organization, subject to staff conditions. The vote passed with at least one opposing vote. Commissioners discussed the variance criteria and potential precedent; the neighboring organization had submitted a letter of support. The commission also unanimously approved conditional-use application CU2026-00005, with conditions, for educational exhibits—including Seminole chickees and a nonfunctional historical outhouse—at the Duval Preservation Trust property in Floral City. Parking, accessibility, and sanitation requirements are to be addressed during permitting.
Staff announced that the comprehensive plan draft is available online and an open house is scheduled for October 19. Commissioners discussed the need for further review and workshops before the plan comes forward for hearings and recommendations. Staff also said a revised community-informed data center ordinance draft is expected in November, with public hearings anticipated around the start of 2027. An asphalt plant application is expected at a future meeting. No contract awards, purchasing decisions, budget allocations, or other procurement activity were identified.
