The October 14, 2026, Public Safety Committee meeting reviewed public-safety capital plans, a proposed township fire and EMS contract, and draft e-bike legislation. The five-year capital forecast included carrying a $70,000 contribution for the Marks radio tower project from 2026 into 2027. Other planned or forecast purchases included EMS stair chairs, fire vehicles and protective equipment, a future Engine 2 replacement and Fire Station 2 upgrades, police vehicle replacements (including hybrids), and dispatch equipment. A second dispatch radio console was estimated at about $19,000 for 2028; a fourth 911 position and replacement dispatch desks were also identified as future needs. These were planning estimates and placeholders, not contract awards or purchase approvals. Police officials said they plan to seek competitive quotes early next year for EMS billing services; the current provider charges 7% of collections. The committee also discussed moving replacement Tasers to 2028 and possible coordination with body-camera purchasing, with no vendor selected.

The committee voted to forward the proposed township fire and EMS contract to the full City Council’s Committee of the Whole; the discussion described changes to the payment terms, including ending the city’s 80% return of EMS fees to the township. A resident asked the city to consider allowing regulated golf carts on local roads, and staff said they would research the issue. Members reviewed a draft e-bike ordinance, including safety and enforcement provisions, but took no legislative action. No procurement award was made during the meeting.
