The Leavenworth County Board of County Commissioners’ October 14, 2026 meeting included updates on road maintenance and county facilities. Public Works plans to have a road assessment completed for damaged sections of Pine Oaks and Washboard/Rutting roads, then update the CIP to reflect the needed repair; staff are doing interim milling and patching, with no final project cost or award discussed. Building and Grounds reported that an RFP for the county shop roof was issued for a concealed-fastener roof, but no bid award was reported. The EMS Station 2 parking lot was replaced. Pullman is tentatively scheduled to begin work on the Cushing building exterior in February 2027, weather permitting, with a June 15, 2027 deadline referenced and daily penalties thereafter. Emergency Management cited a roughly $160,000 lawn-mower contract as a major expense, and reported pursuing a competitive mitigation grant for courthouse generator replacement; neither was approved by the board at this meeting.
Public comment focused on proposed Project Bluestem data centers, including calls for limits on PFAS-containing cooling systems, water use, and potential electricity-infrastructure costs; a commissioner expressed support for further consideration of the proposal’s potential benefits. The board also agreed to schedule a work session in two weeks to develop meeting rules and bylaws. No procurement-related motions or contract awards were recorded; the only formal motion was to adjourn.
