The Tuscaloosa Historic Preservation Commission held a public hearing on October 14, 2026, to review certificates of appropriateness for work in local historic districts. The Commission approved applications covering rear porches, porch repairs, window and siding replacement, pools and a garden shed, signs, fences and gates, a wall, a garage enclosure, an accessibility ramp, and a change to a previously approved window design. No contracts, vendors, public purchases, budget allocations, or other procurement activity were identified; the applications concerned property improvements subject to historic-preservation review.

Approvals included conditions on several projects: the window proposed for removal at 1708 8th Street must remain in place as a false window; the fence at 50 Sherwood Drive must have finished exterior sides throughout, use wood rather than chain link along the rear, include a horizontal finishing member, and have a stump removed. The Commission allowed that fence to remain 9 feet 8 inches tall in view of the site’s terrain. The 303 Queen City Avenue fence was approved at six feet, rather than the taller height requested. The Commission also approved meeting synopses and reported 11 expedited historic-preservation approvals since its prior meeting.
