Henry County District 5 town hall, October 14, 2026, focused on transportation, roads, and stormwater services. Public Works described the road-project process and said five major projects are under construction: McDonough Parkway Extension, Rock Corey Road widening, Mill Road widening, Jonesboro Road widening from I-75 to North Mount Carmel Road, and State Route 81 widening. Officials also discussed resurfacing priorities based on pavement-condition data and ongoing coordination with utilities and property owners. The county has procured approximately $800,000–$900,000 in pothole-repair equipment, following commissioners’ approval. No new contract awards or vendor selections were announced.
Officials explained that a proposed six-year renewal of the transportation SPLOST, estimated to generate $330 million for the county and cities, will appear on the ballot. Potential projects include Jonesboro Road Phase 2, Fairview Road, additional intersection upgrades, and resurfacing; Phase 2 construction is targeted for late 2029 or early 2030 if the renewal passes. The meeting also covered the county’s local-match support for state projects, the GDOT-led Highway 155 widening, and the Bethlehem Road interstate exit. Residents were invited to submit comments on Jonesboro Road Phase 2 through October 25 and use the county’s SeeClickFix system for service concerns.
