Buncombe County Board of Adjustment meeting, October 14, 2026: The board approved a special use permit for Cane Creek Disc Golf Course, a proposed recreational complex on 28.6 acres at 586 King Creek Road. The project includes disc golf, volleyball courts, and a soccer field. The approval allows only specified incidental sales and rentals of recreation-related equipment, beverages, and prepackaged food, with no outdoor sales or storage, no commercial kitchen, and no more than one food truck operating during facility hours. The board adopted the permit order by vote; the project must also meet applicable floodplain, site, and other ordinance requirements.

The board also approved a special use permit for a private personal landing strip on an unaddressed 20.65-acre parcel owned by Kevin Barker. Conditions include private, noncommercial use; proper storage of aircraft fuel and hazardous materials; construction consistent with the submitted plan; and required site development permitting. The approved order further limits use to short-takeoff-and-landing aircraft, sets a weekly limit on flights, and requires takeoffs to the north and landings from the north. Both hearings resulted in permit approvals. No procurement, contract award, vendor selection, or spending action was identified.
