The City of Stevens Point Historic Preservation / Design Review Commission met October 13, 2026. It approved an Associated Bank proposal to add a drive-up ATM lane and awning, and approved St. Steven Parish’s proposed accessibility addition at 1401 Clark, with the condition that finalized design changes be reviewed by staff. The parish said the contractor’s price exceeded its budget and it was considering removing the proposed breezeway; it had not yet committed to the project. The commission also approved brick repairs to a downtown building, involving an estimated 2,300–2,500 replacement bricks. No contract award or vendor selection was reported for these projects.
The commission considered a $7,800 facade improvement grant request to help fund the brick repairs. The program reimburses up to 40% of eligible project costs, with a maximum award of $30,000; staff said the full $100,000 program allocation was available. A motion to approve the grant was made, but the transcript does not capture a second or vote, so final approval is unclear. Staff also briefed commissioners on proposed changes to federal Section 106 historic-preservation review, including potentially reduced consultation and public participation; these were presented as proposals, not enacted changes.
