The Stevens Point Police & Fire Commission met on October 14, 2026, and approved the bills, a school resource officer (SRO) vehicle-services agreement, and the 2027 police and fire budgets. Police bills included $2,100 for flashlights, largely offset by a grant, leaving an estimated city cost of about $153. Under the SRO agreement, the school district will contribute up to $17,000 toward outfitting a squad vehicle for the program. The commission approved the police capital budget, including $275,000 for squad radios and up to $185,000 for an RT unit; replacement windows were deferred another year. It also approved the police operating budget, which raises training funds from $32,880 to $38,000, a $5,120 increase.

For the fire department, the chief reported that the initial 2027 capital request was $537,500 and that consolidating radio replacement plans would save $67,500; the approved capital allocation was approximately $140,000. Some requests were deferred, including technical-rescue equipment and station improvements, with station 2 parking-lot work pushed to 2028. The chief also described a 0% increase in the fire operating budget and reductions to items including contracted services, employee wellness, public education, training, and pre-employment testing. The commission approved the fire capital and operating-budget items discussed. No specific vendor award was identified.
