The City of Winston-Salem Bicycle/Pedestrian/Active Mobility Advisory Committee met on October 14, 2026. The Winston-Salem Area TPO reviewed the Prioritization 8.0 process for the 2028–2037 State Transportation Improvement Program: 17 bicycle/pedestrian projects are among more than 40 regional projects seeking funding. The division-needs pool is estimated at $40 million, but roughly 90% is reserved for highway projects, leaving about $4 million likely for non-highway modes; funded bicycle/pedestrian projects would rely on federal funds and require a 20% local match. The TPO’s draft assigns 100 local-input points to the Peters Creek Parkway sidewalk project, while Muddy Creek Greenway and the 3rd Street cycle track also received advisory-member points. The Long Branch Trail Phase 3 study was cited at an estimated $4.8 million. Public feedback is being solicited; no project award was made at this meeting.

The committee approved its budget recommendation letter, advocating increased sidewalk maintenance funding (a proposed 20% annual increase), parks and greenway maintenance (15% annually for five years), and expanding traffic-calming projects from 12 to 20 per year, while also calling attention to bicycle infrastructure and transit-stop needs. It also approved a legislative-agenda recommendation, with an added request for recurring Great Trail State funding, supporting restoration of state highway funds for bicycle and pedestrian projects. These are advocacy recommendations, not adopted budget allocations. On micromobility, staff reported that Lime was the only applicant and recommended renewing its annual operating permit; the permitting process was still underway, so no final permit action was reported. The committee also received greenway project updates, including pending federal approval for Long Branch Trail Phase 2 construction funding.
