The City of Madison Transportation Commission met on October 14, 2026. The Commission unanimously approved a resolution raising the towing charge forfeiture rate from $115 to $125, effective in 2027. Staff said the $10 increase reflects estimated inflation and is intended to keep the rate aligned with anticipated costs under the towing contract, which expires in 2027 and includes possible one-year renewals. Staff will provide members with data on annual tows, including street moves versus impounds, and said it is beginning to track program costs and review towing guidelines. The Commission also unanimously approved the resolution honoring Metro Transit Chief Development Officer Mick Ruch upon his retirement and approved the minutes and consent agenda, which included the annual review of the Metro Transit Safety Plan.
Staff explained that a previously introduced resolution concerning agreements with carriers using the Madison State Street Regional Bus Terminal was duplicative of an earlier action, and the Commission unanimously placed it on file. Staff reported that terminal opening preparations are behind schedule, with a consultant being brought on to help coordinate the final stages; a phased opening is possible. During public comment, a speaker urged increased funding for road repairs, including possible budget reallocations or a dedicated tax, but the topic was not on the agenda and no action was taken. Future agenda items include a Motorola Solutions emergency radio communications contract, John Roland Drive Phase 2, proposed paratransit fare increases and contract rates for commute card and unlimited ride pass programs, and Odana Road transportation improvements.
