The Charles County Public Schools Board of Education meeting on October 13, 2026, included approval of an approximately $1.91 million increase to the FY2027 budget. The carryover covers existing capital-project obligations crossing fiscal years—including HVAC and chiller work, fire-alarm and access-control upgrades, parking-lot projects, a building addition, portable classrooms, and a fuel-tank installation—and Blueprint funds retained for their designated student-support, nursing, and transportation purposes. The board approved the increase unanimously; officials said it does not request additional county funding or create recurring revenue. The board also received a clean financial-statement audit, with an unassigned general-fund balance of $16.5 million within a total general-fund balance of $38.6 million, described as less than one month of reserves.

Other procurement- and budget-related discussion included planning for Maryland’s Time to Care Act, for which the district is weighing the state plan against private coverage; an RFP process involving approximately 11 insurance agencies had produced illustrative, not final, rates. In recruitment, HR reported ending work with the Davis advertising agency and adopting Careerfair Plus for digital recruitment. The board also heard that CCPS received more than $2 million through a Grow Your Own grant to support a registered teacher apprenticeship program. No new contract award or vendor selection was approved. The board separately approved the reviewed 10,000 policy series and routine minutes and personnel items.
