The Redmond Planning Commission meeting on October 14, 2026 included public hearings and study sessions on transportation-plan amendments, neighborhood connection maps, and a proposed tree-code update. For the neighborhood maps, commissioners supported moving toward repeal of the outdated maps rather than waiting for the broader 2027 neighborhood-element update, while asking staff to provide additional information on removed connections and related document cleanup before the October 28 recommendation. The commission also reviewed proposed additions of shared-use paths on Northeast 40th Street and Northeast 70th Street, plus a correction adding a shared-use path to the Northeast 72nd Street project. Staff said cost estimates for the two new projects were still needed and would be added; commissioners requested responses on environmental review, project prioritization, cost and scope, and hearing-date discrepancies before their recommendation. No contract awards or purchasing approvals were made.
The tree-code update remains under review, with further discussion planned for November 4. Proposed changes include clearer enforcement and penalties, expanded eligible uses of tree fees, replacement requirements, third-party review, and programmatic permitting for city improvement projects. Commissioners discussed making the code easier for homeowners to navigate, strengthening tree replacement and enforcement, and obtaining more canopy data. A public speaker urged the commission to recommend funding a city arborist in the 2027–28 budget; this was a request, not an approved budget action. Another speaker requested support for PFAS testing, but no funding decision was made. The commission elected officers for the remainder of the term and approved the prior meeting summary.
