The Homeless Coordinating Council met on October 8, 2026, to reconstitute its work and establish leadership and committee structures. Mayor Tim Keller was selected as chair, and Commissioner Adrienne Barboa as vice chair. Members organized prevention, services, and housing committees, with committee leadership assigned across city, county, and partner representatives. The council reviewed a draft framework with five goals: reducing unsheltered homelessness and returns to homelessness, increasing exits to permanent housing, reducing time experiencing homelessness, and improving coordination among housing, behavioral health, health care, and education systems. The framework will be opened for public comment before finalization.

Members discussed a proposed coordinated approach focused on people who frequently interact with multiple public systems, including a 120-day design and launch phase, outcome tracking, and development of a shared dashboard. Participants noted that coordination must respect privacy laws. The council set a schedule for committee meetings in November and its next full meeting for December 10, with a proposed jail tour; later meetings may include tours of Gateway and UNM’s crisis triage center. No procurement activity, contract awards, or spending decisions were identified.
