At the Sussex County Board of County Commissioners’ regular meeting on October 14, 2026, a commissioner raised concerns about the county jail’s future and potential renovation costs. The commissioner said the jail retrofit planning account had fallen from $100,000 to $40,800, including legal expenses, and noted that more than $5 million in proceeds from the sale of the Homestead was available under a 2012 policy that may permit its use for jail renovation. The board approved a motion to enter executive session to discuss jail-related matters concerning real property or public funds; one commissioner opposed. The resolution stated that the board did not expect to take formal action after returning. No contract award, bid approval, or renovation procurement decision was reported.
County staff also presented a refreshed Four Seasons of Agriculture program, including an online farm directory and seasonal outreach materials; no related spending or purchasing decision was stated. Other presentations covered Sussex County Technical School’s T-Mobile contest and Habitat Northwest New Jersey’s housing and home-repair work. No procurement activity was identified in those presentations.
