2026-10-14 Historic Landmarks Commission Meeting

The Jefferson County Historic Landmarks Commission met on October 14, 2026. The commission approved the prior meeting minutes and treasurer’s report. The report listed total assets of $70,123.37 and noted that bills were paid and accounts were current. The commission discussed $10,000 received for maintenance of Chaplin Cemetery; the funds are being held while project organizers obtain quotes for repairs to the cemetery wall. No contract award or spending motion for that work was recorded.

Procurement-related updates included plans to advertise for bids three times and obtain six bids under a state SHPO survey and planning grant for ground-penetrating radar work at Fairview Cemetery and an African American cemetery. At Peterborough Farm, Bullfrog Contracting completed barn work to deter buzzards and was engaged to replace damaged or missing flooring, with that work expected to begin in about three weeks. A contractor from Maryland was also expected to provide a quote for treating structures at the mill. The commission discussed other maintenance needs, but no additional awards or procurement votes were recorded.
