🏗️ Construction & Infrastructure 🚨 Public Safety Physical Infrastructure Grants & Funding

At the October 14, 2026 City Council meeting of the City of Easton, council approved a $159,000 agreement with Michael Rickline General Contractor LLC for Hooper House improvements, funded through ARPA and grant funds. Council also unanimously approved an agreement with Lehigh Valley Holiday Lighting to replace Center Square tree lights. Funding was reported as $10,000 from a hotel-tax grant, $10,000 from Friends of Easton, $300 from the Police Athletic League, and $15,200 from the city. Members discussed ongoing maintenance and safety considerations for the lights. A fire and quick-response services agreement with West Easton was also approved unanimously; council discussed the agreement’s term and workload implications, and a council member requested quarterly reports on calls and costs.

The Economic Development Committee reported grant applications—not awards—for $497,000 for EMS stretchers and radio upgrades, $167,000 for Lafayette public-safety radio upgrades, $208,000 for Easton Fire Department turnout gear, $175,000 for Knox Avenue improvements, $61,000 for the county lot, and $179,000 for a police body-worn and in-car camera system upgrade. Council approved an ordinance vacating part of Church Street. Other potential spending matters were left for future review: the administration was asked to assess a December first-30-minutes-free metered-parking trial, and council planned further discussion of street-light replacements and traffic changes. The mayor said budget recommendations were still in flux; no final budget action was taken.
