Thornton City Council meeting — October 13, 2026. Council unanimously passed a motion requesting a staff report for the November 10 council update on options to support police officers during high-risk calls, including drones as first responders and in-car cameras. The motion asks that, if council indicates majority support, staff bring any necessary agreement or supplemental appropriation to a regular meeting by December 8; no purchase or spending was approved at this meeting. Council also approved, by a 7–1 vote on first reading, a zoning amendment for about 55 acres at East 88th Avenue and Welby Road to Transit Oriented Development. Specific development details and infrastructure needs will be addressed in later review; the zoning decision itself did not award a contract.
In an economic development update, staff reported that environmental cleanup at Market at 88 had substantially removed contaminants and that three developers had prequalified to submit for a forthcoming RFP for redevelopment; the city has not selected a developer. The stated vision includes retail, public spaces, and placemaking. Staff also reported nearly $15,000 in SCFD funding for indoor murals and plans to issue a call for artists for four murals in 2027. No other contract awards, bid approvals, or procurement spending decisions were identified.
