The City of Culver City Planning Commission met on October 14, 2026. The main agenda item was a city-initiated zoning code amendment to the landscaping ordinance, including a CEQA exemption, to promote water conservation and California native plants. After public comment and discussion, the Commission recommended the amendment to the City Council, passing the main motion unanimously (5 ayes). Amendments included raising the native-plant requirement for residential and mixed-use projects from 25% to 50% (approved 4–1), elevating pollinator support as an encouraged code element, and removing the term “ornamental” from the landscaping language (both approved unanimously). Commissioners also asked staff to review whether definitions could incorporate references to other codes and suggested public education about existing landscaping rules. The proposed native-plant standards are scheduled to take effect May 1, 2027, if adopted by the Council. The Commission supported maintaining the existing artificial-turf prohibition; other city departments are studying potential options for future consideration.

During general public comment, speakers raised concerns about a proposed 40-unit apartment project near Lafayette Place, including traffic, alley access, and potential impacts on adjacent historic homes. The project was not an action item at this meeting. No contracts, purchases, bid approvals, or other procurement activity were identified.
