The City of Kalamazoo Historic Preservation Commission met on October 14, 2026. It reviewed its financial position, reporting $86,494.13 in spendable funds before subtracting $32,500 already encumbered, leaving $53,994.13 available. The commission approved the proposed budget as presented. Budget items included $500 each for operating supplies and professional/contractual services, $345 for subscriptions and memberships, and up to $7,000 to support commissioners’ attendance at a preservation conference. Members discussed whether the professional-services allowance would cover a previously considered grant writer and noted that a future budget amendment could be made if needed. They also discussed maintaining grant commitments in line with available fund income and carryover. No contract awards, vendor selections, or capital project purchases were identified.
The commission also unanimously approved changing its bylaws’ quorum requirement from five members to four. Members discussed Section 106 historic-preservation review, planning the 2027 work plan, and possible meeting dates; these discussions did not result in procurement actions.
