The OCPS Board held a work session on October 13, 2026 (the meeting metadata lists October 14), to hear proposals from five firms for the superintendent search. The firms described their recruitment, stakeholder-engagement, candidate-screening, background-check, and transition services, with different scopes and pricing. Cost figures discussed included McPherson & Jacobson’s $45,000 virtual option or $57,000 full-service option; FSBA’s $35,000 consulting fee plus approximately $7,000 in travel, with advertising and background checks estimated separately at $5,000–$8,000; HYA’s $35,000 base proposal with additional services and screening costs; Sunshine’s not-to-exceed fee of $34,500; and JG Consulting’s $63,000 all-inclusive proposal.

After discussion, several board members favored the Florida School Boards Association (FSBA), citing its prior work with OCPS, Florida-specific expertise, and support for incoming board members. The board gave consensus direction, without objection, for the superintendent and staff to enter into a contract with FSBA. Staff stated the FSBA contract was below the board’s $50,000 approval threshold, so a separate action item was not required. The chair had initially stated that no action would be taken during the work session, but the board ultimately provided this direction. No public comment period was held.
