Board Work Session - 10/13/26

At the October 13, 2026 Iowa City School Board work session, the board discussed four proposals for a superintendent search firm. Members generally agreed to invite Grundmeyer and Hazard, Young, Attea (HYA) to interviews, narrowing the field without making a contract award. Grundmeyer was described as the least expensive proposal and as including an additional position search at no charge; no dollar amounts were stated. Members also discussed the fairness and legal considerations of negotiating after proposals were submitted and agreed that the firms should receive equal interview time.

The board tentatively planned 20-minute interviews with the two firms at an upcoming work session on the 27th, subject to confirming scheduling and policy matters. Board members may submit questions by the following Tuesday for advance sharing with the firms, with a process to select common questions discussed. Contract finalization and signing had previously been tentatively proposed for November 10. The only formal motion recorded was to adjourn; no contract award or spending vote was taken.
