The Town of Schererville’s October 14, 2026 meeting included water, stormwater, redevelopment, utility board, and Town Council business. The stormwater board approved a drainage and utility easement agreement with Pine Island Ridge Community Association to help address aging, collapsed stormwater pipes and flooding. The Redevelopment Commission approved Resolution 2026-5, removing parcels with negative assessed values from the Kennedy Avenue economic development area; officials said this would increase available tax increment revenue to support the ongoing Kennedy Avenue construction project. The Utility Board and Town Council also approved Resolution 2026-10, amending the sewage-treatment agreement with St. John to increase its plant capacity allocation from 30% to 40%. St. John’s treatment rate will be $2.31 per 10,000 gallons, and the town estimated the increased charges could raise its annual bill by about $270,000.

The Council adopted the 2027 civil budget, including $22,115,452 in property-tax-funded budgets, and authorized submission for state review. It also approved up to $250,000 in temporary disaster-recovery funding for August storm debris removal, repayable subject to FEMA and state reimbursements, and approved an addendum for emergency debris removal and disposal after the measured debris volume exceeded the original estimate (18,000 versus 14,000 cubic yards); no addendum amount or contractor name was stated. Other approved items included a $1,000 donation to the Schererville Baseball League and the Pine Island Ridge easement agreement. The meeting also received an update that the county convention center remained in design, with bidding to follow and opening estimated around 2030; no contract award was made. Votes on the major resolutions and funding actions were generally unanimous.
