The City of Eau Claire Board of Review meeting on May 25, 2022, elected Joel Christopherson as chair and Jansen as vice chair, reviewed assessment-hearing policies, and accepted the 2022 assessment roll. The city assessor reported that the city had about 23,000 parcels, conducted a revaluation for 2021, and made approximately $128.8 million in assessment changes for 2022, primarily for new construction and corrections. The meeting addressed property-assessment appeals rather than procurement; no purchasing, contracts, or procurement-related spending actions were identified.
The board approved waiver requests for several commercial-property appeals, including matters involving Sam’s Real Estate Business Trust and Agree partnership, to facilitate resolution of pending litigation and use of city and judicial resources. After hearing Menards’ appeal and the assessor’s response, the board voted to uphold the assessments on three parcels: $11,371,000, $11,110,000, and $1,680,000. The board also approved a waiver for Shields despite its late filing, with the stated aim of allowing the challenge to proceed alongside existing litigation.
