The School District of Beloit held a special board meeting on July 15, 2026, to review an external evaluation of its special education systems and discuss improvement priorities. The evaluation examined leadership, service delivery, instruction, program management, collaboration, professional learning, staffing, and related data. Staff identified needs for more consistent practices across schools, clearer roles and expectations, stronger educator capacity and collaboration, and better alignment among IEPs, instruction, interventions, and progress monitoring. Board members discussed limitations in the student growth data presented and called for more specific goals and accountability measures.
District staff described initial improvement steps, including reviewing special education resources, expanding professional learning and coaching, and strengthening collaboration across schools. Board members supported continued improvement work and requested a more comprehensive written action plan with strategies, responsible parties, timelines, and evaluation measures, with one member asking that it be provided within the next couple of months. Staff indicated that progress would be brought to the board during the year. No votes, contract awards, purchasing decisions, or specific spending actions were identified.
